Sannenzaka Correspondence

Editors’ Diary 23/08/2023

I came to the University of Tokyo’s Economics Library to borrow materials containing a comprehensive description of mobile money. While I as a news reporter used to write about the future of commodities, I also have an interest in the future of currency. My curiosity in these domains always has been deepened through interactions with people from think tanks sponsored by securities firms, or investment banks. When materials authored by economists and historians include anthropological insights, such as descriptions of primitive economies and informal trading, they become very friendly to me as a journalist. Although I haven’t never formally been enrolled in anthropology courses within Japan, but sometimes I have participated in their hosted 🍲P.A.R.T.Y. party or Symposion.
