Sannenzaka Correspondence

Editors’ Diary 20/08/2023

Considering the timeframe until the thesis defense, it might be a well-tempered idea to translate a highly classical yet significant work into Japanese in a manner reminiscent of a booklet. Similar to how the only translation work by the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu was on Erwin Panofsky’s art history, it should be carefully chosen. Bourdieu wrote that he borrowed the concept of his famous “habitus” from Panofsky’s work.

A work that befits my professional role as a news reporter, rather than an absent-minded armchair scholar, characterized by a refined style, moderately antagonistic towards the conventional publishing industry, and bearing an exceptionally crystallizing conceptual essence or dynamic motif, rather than the demeanor of a contemplative academic.
